Japan is the world's largest importer of wood products, which depends upon imported timber nearly 80% of its domestic demand. The suppliers are extensively spread in North America, Southeast Asia, Russia, Nordic and European countries, New Zealand, South America (Chile) and Africa. The items destined for Japan are not only material logs and sawn lumber but also finished products. The market with an annual demand of 30 million cubic meters always attracts the worldwide exporters.

The Japan Lumber Journal (JLJ), established in 1960, has been most widely circulated among many of the overseas suppliers to the Japanese market for timber and housing materials.

This semi-monthly publication provides market commentary on wood and housing industries and various benchmark prices in Japan. At the same time, JLJ ties up with the RINZAI Lumber Daily News (in Japanese) that delivers the industrial news to sawmills, distributors, builders and others throughout Japan.

Our primary mission is to provide the best and reliable market information and services to our subscribers as well as to those who wish to excavate the Japanese market for wooden building products. The goal of the journal is to contribute to healthy development of the timber business that has become a commodity for the global market today.
